Obituary Dr. William L. Adams, DVM, age 83, of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in Mt. Vernon.

He was born on August 20, 1935 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, one of the two sons born to the late Roscoe L. Adams and Mary Elizabeth (Lawrence) Adams. William was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, the University of Kentucky, and the Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. He served his country honorably as a captain in the United States Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force he returned first to Somerset and then to Mt. Vernon to continue his service to others.

He became well known for providing compassionate and excellent care for animals throughout Rockcastle, Pulaski, and other surrounding counties, and was affectionately called “Doc” or “Doc Adams” by those who knew and loved him. “Doc” was a man of great compassion and generosity who was quick to laugh, loved to hear and tell a good story, and was well-loved throughout the counties he served. He and his late wife Lillian, “Lil,” established the Adams Veterinary Clinic on the farm in Mt. Vernon that has been in the family for multiple generations. “Doc” provided affordable, professional veterinary medical care for over 50 years and was well known for his dedicated service to the profession of veterinary medicine. He shared his mother’s interest in genealogy and took pride in living on the ancestral family farm. In recent years, he referred to the farm as “Brookland Farm,” a moniker first established by his uncle Dr. George Lawrence, M.D., during his time living on the farm. “Doc” took quiet pride in having the stretch of old Highway 461 that bisects the farm named “Doc Adams Road” in his honor.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife; Lillian (Dion) Adams, whom he married on March 6, 1956 in Berea, Kentucky and his brother; Jack Lincoln Adams, and Jack’s wife, Peggy (O’Brien) Adams.

Doc is survived by his nephews; John Lawrence (Anne) Adams of Vernon, Connecticut, William Lawrence (Joanne) Adams II of Barre, Vermont, his great-nephew, ABH3 (AW) Christopher Lawrence Adams, of Bremerton, Washington, special friends, Anita White of Somerset and Mark Parsons of Mt. Vernon, and a host of other relatives, friends, and constituents. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. The family is deeply appreciative of the love, friendship, and care that both Anita and Mark provided “Doc” for decades, but particularly in the later years of his life. “Doc” spoke highly of them both and loved and cared for them both as family.

Family and friends will gather at 12:00 Noon, on Saturday, October 27, 2018 for a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at Somerset Undertaking Company with Rev. Herman Hamilton officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service. “Doc” and “Lil” will be laid to rest together in the Elmwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky at the convenience of the family.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made “In Memory of Doc Adams” to the Rockcastle County Humane Society, the Pulaski County Humane Society, or the animal welfare organization of your choice.

Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory is entrusted with the arrangements for Dr. William L. “Doc” Adams.
